My graduation project centered on developing a platform that improves access to public documents required by the Open Government Act. I focused on accessibility by designing user-friendly interfaces, simplifying legal jargon, and ensuring the platform met digital accessibility guidelines. My goal was to create a solution that allows everyone, regardless of their abilities, to easily access and comprehend important government information.
Understanding user needs through research
To ensure that the platform would meet the needs of all users, especially those requiring accessible content, I conducted thorough user research. I engaged with various user groups, including individuals with disabilities, to gather insights into their challenges and preferences. From this research, I developed detailed personas that represented key user segments. These personas served as a foundation for making informed design decisions that catered to the diverse needs of the platform’s audience.
Creating an interface that was not only functional but also accessible to everyone was a top priority. I focused on design elements that enhance usability, such as high color contrast, clear typography, and intuitive layouts. I applied the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) to ensure that the platform met all necessary requirements. By adhering to these standards, I made the platform legally compliant and accessible to all users, fulfilling both ethical and functional goals.
Iterative design through usability testing
User feedback was important to refining the platform. I conducted multiple rounds of usability testing with a diverse group of participants, including those with disabilities. These tests provided valuable insights into how real users interacted with the platform. Based on their feedback, I made iterative improvements to the design, enhancing functionality and accessibility. This process ensured that the final product was not only effective but also truly user-centered.
Enhancing user experience with QR codes
To streamline access to the platform and its resources, I integrated QR codes into the project. These QR codes were strategically placed on physical documents and communication materials, allowing users to quickly and easily access relevant information by simply scanning with their smartphones. This feature was especially beneficial for users who may struggle with navigating complex websites. The use of QR codes ensured that all users could access important documents and updates with minimal effort, bridging the gap between offline and online experiences.
